Finally after much hard work, a friend of Pat's got Heather an audition at a nightclub called "The Green
Orchid." Heather really lost sleep now, practicing longer every night. The day of the night of her premiere, after Heather was late from
lunch, she and Wycliff had an argument. Wycliff demanded to know why Heather was late. She smugly asked him to take a ride with
her, but would not tell him why. Finally, against his will he went with her in a cab to see her marquee with her name up in lights at "The Green Orchid."
In the heat of anger, the couple embraced in a kiss that set off fireworks. Heather did not show up at the Green Orchid that night.
When Heather came home the next morning to her worried mother, she had Wycliff with her and happily told her mother they were going to get married. Louise was shocked and told them she was hoping Heather would of at least given her singing career a chance. Wycliff told her that Heathers singing career was not as important as being his wife was. This angered Heather and an
argument began. Wycliff left, telling Heather that when she came to her senses she knew where to find him.
Assuming she was fired from the office, Heather did not show up for work. She began to drink from depression and hung out at Pat's house, singing sad
songs. She asked Pat to kiss her, only realizing there were "no fireworks".
Heather also began self destructive behavior which included drinking with Hank at "The Method" and dancing on
tables. Hank was not very happy with the wild side of Heather. She tried to find the spark with Hank, too, but to no avail.
Later that night, Heather had a long talk with her neighbor Dick, which led her to tears. He told her her to stop wasting her life. Dick told her she had a big singing career ahead of her and she should take advantage of her talent.
