The next day, Arnold goes to Mr. Roarke and tells him he killed Francesca again, just as he had done years before. Mr. Roarke tells him no, the girl who was there who was fulfilling Arnold fantasy left on a plane a few hours ago.
Puzzled, Arnold goes with Mr. Roarke and Tattoo to the apartment and sees that it is untouched by any explosive. Arnold realizes he cannot change the past and can never bring Francesca back.


As Arnold cries bitterly and deliriously, Mr. Roarke sadly tells Tattoo "Poor Mr. Greenwood, I'm afraid he'll just keep killing Francesca for the rest of his...life."
