TROY DONAHUE AND SANDRA DEE !!! This sizzling gala features tributes to these
teen idols interviewed by
Jan Wahl,
a screening of their summer classic
A SUMMER
PLACE, and the “How To Stuff a Wild Bikini” beauty contest hosted by sin-sational
hip-hopping– The “Lady” Bunny and a performance by cabaret artist Paula
West. Partial proceeds go towards benefiting Matri, offering
compassionate residential care for people living with AIDS.
Stupendously popular with young audiences, Sandra Dee and Troy Donahue starred in
many teen-age oriented productions– she as the glamorous nymphet on the threshold of
romantic maturity, and he as the true blue-eyed All American hunk. Together they starred
in two films, Douglas Sirk’s classic IMITATION OF LIFE, and the lush soaper A
SUMMER PLACE. Dee also made two characters household
names - playing the original Gidget and starring as Tammy Tyree in Tammy Tell Me True" and "Tammy and The Doctor". Donahue gained popularity in the TV
series "Surfside 6”and “Hawaiian Eye”. Both also made headlines in their personal lives
–with Donahue wedded briefly to Suzanne Pleshette, and Dee entering into a tumultuous
marriage with Bobby Darin, and later
battling both anorexia and alcoholism. Their lives on and off screen will
be subjet de nuit in an on-stage conversation with local t.v. celebutant
Jan Wahl.
Femceeing this fab event will be the flame of New York’s underground, the one, the only
–the “Lady” Bunny – star of the hit film WIGSTOCK. Her fiery cover of the 60’s hit
“Wipeout” will debut at this gala.,and she will also host a “How to Stuff a Wild Bikini”
contest (bikinis are deriguer, and all genders are encouraged to apply- a $100 cash prize

Exciting events include a 6:00 pm catered
reception in the Castro Mezzanine with all celebrities in attendance.
All additional proceeds from this reception go to Maitri.The evening climaxes with a screening of the summer blockbuster A SUMMER PLACE
(1959), a seasick tale of love and lust under the sweltering summer sun. PLUS...At
approximately 10:30 pm, following the 7:30 pm event, there will be It is open to all

This gala is the latest in a string of hit events produced by the "guru of glam" Marc Huestis,
whose MOTHER'S DAY WITH CHRISTINA CRAWFORD at New York's Town Hall
was hailed as "so much fun" by the Village Voice, and "bizarre & fascinating" by the
Village Voice. Other sold-out events have included A JOHN WATER'S X-MAS,
THE POSEIDON EVENT-URE with an in-person tribute to Carol Lynley & Stella
Stevens, and VALLEY OF THE DOLLS with a tribute to Barbara Parkins.
