Lora is very ambitious, but when agent Allen Loomis invites her
to accompany him to a showbiz party and make her luck by other
talents than that for acting, she refuses this attempt to
cheapen her.
Meanwhile Annie has serious trouble with Sarah Jane, who
does not want to be black. At school Sarah Jane
passes as white until her mother turns up, thus unmasking her.
Sarah Jane never goes back to that school. Annie does not know
how to explain to her child that she was born to be hurt.
Steve gets a job in the advertisement staff of a brewery
and asks Lora to marry him. Lora turns him down, as her
prime interest is the theater, and she wants more than she
thinks Steve can give her. Just then Lora gets a part in a play by
David Edwards, and this is her big break. David Edwards makes
her his heroine and she becomes a celebrated Broadway comedy star.
