Rumors were denied on the set of "Come September" of a big romance, but it was clear to everyone around them Bobby Darin and Sandra Dee were in love. The couple had to separate when Bobby wrapped up his role in the film and flew to Washington to accept a entertainment award.

          But Bobby and Sandra were reunited when she flew into Idlewild airport from Rome and Bobby was there to meet her with a emerald cut engagement ring. They had only known each other a very short time. Despite Sandra's mothers disapproval, because of Sandra's young age, Bobby and Sandra eloped on December 1, 1960 at Don Kirshner's apartment in Elizabeth NJ at 3am.
