Hollywood's Newest Star...At 15
This article appeared in the February 1958 issue of People and Places Magazine
Sandra Dee has known the world of fashion, society and culture from the moment she looked out of her cradle in her parents' penthouse apartment in Bayonne, N. J., April 23, 1942.
Sandy's career was launched at the age of 12 when she was seen modeling for a Girl Scout benefit fashion show and was signed as a professional. Further successes followed and she was soon intaking $30 an hour as one of America's top 10 models. Her picture appeared on the covers of seven national magazines in one year and she was also seen on television.
The next step was to Hollywood. There Ross Hunter, U-I producer, tested her in a love scene with John Saxon for
"The Restless Years." The greatest tragedy of Sandra's life is that her father died two days before she was signed by U-I.
Even before U-I began shooting, MGM borrowed Sandra for a lead in their wartime romance,"Until They Sail". That is how, at 15, Sandra plays her first film role--a loanout from a star contract as a star!
Sandra has achieved success which to most youngsters her age is just a dream, but at the same time she leads a well-balanced life under her mother's constant and careful guidance. However, her one outstanding desire is to achieve the film fame her father promised her when she was just a child.
