When Pete goes to an agricultural college, he never writes.
Tammy reckons, that he compared her with "them college type girls", and
that she came up short. Tammy realizes, that she is just an unlearnt
shanty boat girl from the Mississippi. Thus she decides to take her goat Nan,
return to the shanty boat, the Ellen B, pull it downstream and go to
Seminola college, so that when Pete comes home, he'll find her not
only to be
"a woman fully growed", but also "ladyfied, proper learnt,
and proper spoken".
" You know what Nan? You and me are goin' to college!!"
